Deobrat Mishra (INDIA)
Musician
Deobrat Mishra is an Indian Sitar, Surbahar, and a music composer. He is an exponent of the Benares Gharana school of Hindustani classical music. The Son of Pandit Shivnath Mishra, a legend of Sitar from this gharana, he has an energetic and innovative playing style, with typical features like selectivity, melody and rhythmic complexity. His playing style is very original and unique in the sense that he plays Benarasi Thumri on the sitar, combining it with Dhrupad and Khayal styles of singing, creating a rare new style.
Tell us a little about yourself:
I come from one of the important musical family of India Banares Gharana. I learned sitar from my father Pandit Shivnath Mishra and also tabla with my mother Pramila Mishra. As young child I loved to play music and with the grace of God I become musician.

What mantra/quote/belief do you live by?
Life is full with challenges if you take it positive then it works well if you take it negative then it will bring you pain. As a musician, my life has been very challenging because the income source was not secure. But one thing I was always thinking that I had trust on my music and so it brings me to come out with all challenges. Also one important thing is that you have to have good friends who motivate you to come out of all challenges.
I’m running a project which is teaching young children to play music. Created by my mother, most of my concert money supports my music project. When I don’t play lots of concert then I don’t can support my project which makes me sad some times. that is challenging for me.
