Mary Clare Sweet
Yoga Teacher, Founder Lotus House of Yoga
MC Sweet intends to bring the light! Energetic vibrations of fun run deep in my veins.
My yoga practice began when I read a yoga book and begged my mom to teach me what she knew! I have been practicing for 20 years and to this day, it is the anchor of my life. I own Lotus House of Yoga, movement studios in Nebraska. The classes I lead are fun, challenging and filled with love. Music is integral to the movement classes I lead. My play-lists are funky and always fresh. In what I share, you will find the ancient and the modern, a whole lot of soul, and a commitment to the present.
What's your definition of a SoulJour?
A SoulJour is someone who may be afraid, but tells the truth anyway. They are someone who understands that connectivity is what will evolve humanity to our highest good, which is coming together to take care of our planet, Mother Earth.
What mantra/quote/belief do you life by?
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” Rainer Maria Rilke
What's been your biggest challenge?
My greatest life challenge was overcoming drug and alcohol addiction, finding healing, and finding motherhood as a young twenty something. When I hit rock bottom with my health, I had the foundation of yoga to hold me together. Yoga has been a part of my life since I was 12, and when I needed the TRUE me the most, yoga showed me the way.
How did you heal?
Getting clean meant taking a hard look at all of the places where I "hated" myself and believed I was unworthy of love. Truly, talking the talk, lead to walking the walk, and slowly I found my way to myself. This gave me access to my deepest ability to love others and help them heal in their on process too. Through studying yoga philosophy during my recovery, I found a road map for my life.
How did you turn this challenge into opportunity?
The gift is that through loving myself fully, I could look into the eyes of my students and see into their true love as well. Healing gifted me with the ability to listen without needing to answer, to hold space without needing to fill it. Ultimately, healing created enough space for me to seed and grow the commnity of Lotus House of Yoga, both within our walls and through out the world.
